City of Windhoek Reports Progress in Relocating 309 Households in HHavana. The City of Windhoek has reported progress in the upgrading of informal settlements in the Moses //Garoëb Constituency, including the relocation of 309 households to Havana Extensions 8 and 11.
The update was provided during a public meeting held at the Max Mutongolume TB Clinic, where community members raised concerns about safety, water and other service delivery challenges.
According to the City, the 309 relocated households are now seated according to the approved and proposed township layouts. The relocation is expected to improve access and road connectivity, including providing clearer routes for emergency vehicles.
Havana Extension 8 has been approved by the Urban and Regional Planning Board and has been surveyed. It is currently being registered at the Deeds Office. Extension 11 has been submitted to the Board for consideration.
The City also reported plans for five townships aimed at supporting informal settlement upgrading in the constituency. Three townships on Farms 1028 and 1029 have already been approved and recommended by Council, while Environmental Impact Assessments have been completed for all five planned townships.
Healthcare infrastructure is also being developed, with land allocated for a district hospital that is already under construction.
Progress has also been recorded in household surveying and land administration. The City said 16,588 structures have been numbered, while 10,887 households have been surveyed. A total of 7,318 certificates have been printed, with 6,115 issued. In Moses //Garoëb, 1,500 water forms have also been issued.
The City said relocation, household reorganisation, mapping and digitisation are continuing across settlements including Max Mutongolume, Kavikunua, Kambahahiza and Mandume Ndemufayo.
