Edelweiss Boosts Zurich–Windhoek Flights Ahead of Route Launch. Plans to strengthen air connectivity between Europe and Namibia have been confirmed as Swiss leisure airline Edelweiss Air prepares to expand its upcoming service between Zurich Airport and Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The development comes ahead of the route’s scheduled launch on 1 June 2026. According to Namibia Airports Company and Air Connect Namibia, the airline will initially operate two weekly non-stop flights between Zurich and Windhoek.
This frequency will increase to three weekly flights starting 15 July 2026, marking an early expansion during the route’s first season of operation. The additional service is expected to provide greater flexibility for travellers moving between the two destinations.
Edelweiss plans to operate the route using the Airbus A350-900, a long-haul aircraft configured for international travel. The phased rollout will see flights begin with two weekly frequencies from early June before the third weekly rotation is introduced in mid-July.
The Zurich–Windhoek connection forms part of broader efforts to expand Namibia’s international air access. Increasing flight frequencies is seen as a way to improve connectivity and accommodate growing demand on the route.
The planned schedule outlines a gradual build-up in operations, with the third weekly flight currently set for the airline’s first operating season. No further changes to the frequency have been announced beyond this period.
This route introduction adds a direct link between Switzerland and Namibia, connecting travellers to Windhoek, which serves as a central gateway for international arrivals. The increase in frequencies shortly after launch signals a measured approach to scaling operations as the service becomes established.
