Two Namibian Referees Selected for AFCON U17 Preparation Programme. Namibia will be represented in continental football development after two of its referees were selected to attend a key preparation programme ahead of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Antsino Twanyanyukwa, also known as “Di Maria,” and Naftal Mweshitsama Negongo have been chosen as part of a group of 68 participants from across the continent. The programme is designed to prepare match officials for the upcoming Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
The two centre referees are the only representatives from Namibia included in the selection, placing them among a wider pool of officials identified for development at the continental level. Their inclusion highlights their presence within Africa’s refereeing structures ahead of the youth tournament.
While details of the training schedule and location have not been disclosed, preparation courses of this nature typically focus on officiating standards, fitness, and consistency in decision-making, all of which are critical at international competitions.
The Africa U-17 Cup of Nations serves as one of the continent’s key youth tournaments, bringing together emerging football talent and match officials. The preparation programme forms part of efforts to ensure readiness among referees selected for duties linked to the competition.
For Namibia, the participation of Twanyanyukwa and Negongo represents involvement in a broader continental initiative tied to youth football development. Their selection places them within a network of referees undergoing structured preparation alongside peers from different African nations.
The programme is expected to play a role in shaping officiating standards ahead of the tournament, with participants gaining exposure to the expectations required at this level of competition.
