NSC Urges Sporting Bodies to Honour Athletes Through Annual Awards. The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) has encouraged the country’s sporting federations and associations to honour their athletes by hosting annual award ceremonies that recognise excellence and inspire future generations.
Speaking during the first information-sharing session for the Namibia Annual Sports Awards (Nasa) in Windhoek, NSC spokesperson and project director of the event, Givean Samulandela, stressed the importance of consistently celebrating athletes’ achievements at all levels. He noted that recognition not only motivates athletes but also strengthens the sporting culture in Namibia.
This year’s Namibia Annual Sports Awards will be held on 22 November, with Ongwediva Town Council set to host the event. The awards are expected to showcase outstanding performances across different sporting codes and highlight individuals who have raised the country’s sporting profile both nationally and internationally.
Government has committed N$3 million towards the staging of the ceremony, underscoring its support for the development and promotion of sport in Namibia. Organisers say the funds will ensure that the event provides a fitting platform to reward athletes, coaches, administrators, and other contributors to sports development.
The information-sharing session brought together representatives from various sporting bodies to discuss preparations, nomination processes, and ways in which federations can use the awards as a springboard to host their own recognition platforms.
By calling on sports bodies to establish annual awards, the NSC aims to create a culture where athletes feel valued within their respective disciplines, beyond the national stage. Samulandela said such recognition helps foster a sense of pride and commitment, which in turn contributes to raising standards across Namibia’s sporting community.
