Namibia’s Lück Sisters Shine with Silver at CAVB Zone Six Beach Volleyball Tour. Namibia’s beach volleyball duo Pia and Romy Lück delivered an impressive performance at the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone Six Beach Volleyball Tour, earning a silver medal at the event’s third leg held at Camps Bay Beach in South Africa.
The regional tournament drew 31 participants from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. Namibia fielded five teams in the women’s section, featuring the Lück sisters, Rosi Hennes and Almut Hoffmann, as well as Maike van Doorn and Carmen Curschmann. The men’s division saw participation from debutants Daniel Seidler and Felix Margraf, alongside the pairing of Jan Sack and Luca Kesselmann.
Players faced challenging “strong, unpredictable coastal winds” throughout the competition, testing both endurance and adaptability. The Lück sisters advanced through the group stages and triumphed in the quarter-finals and semi-finals with identical 2-1 victories. In the final, they fell 2-0 to Mozambique, securing second place overall.
Reflecting on the achievement, Pia Lück described the silver medal as a reward for perseverance and teamwork, while Romy expressed pride in competing alongside her sister and highlighted their shared ambition to continue improving.
Elsewhere in the competition, Hennes and Hoffmann finished seventh, with Van Doorn and Curschmann placing tenth in the women’s category. In the men’s section, Sack and Kesselmann placed 14th, while Seidler and Margraf await final confirmation of their ranking.
Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) president Tobias Mwatelulo noted that the country currently lacks the financial capacity to host a leg of the CAVB series, citing costs exceeding N$300,000. The NVF is seeking sponsorships and ministry support to enhance participation and inclusivity in future events.
