Windhoek Advances Market, Fire Station and Settlement Upgrades in Tobias HHainyeko. The City of Windhoek is progressing with several infrastructure and service delivery projects in the Tobias Hainyeko Constituency, including the redesign of Tukondjeni Market, the expansion of the Maxuilili Fire Station and the formalisation and electrification of informal settlements.

The developments were outlined during a public meeting with residents, where the City provided updates on ongoing and planned projects in the constitency.

A total of N$1 million has been allocated for feasibility studies and architectural designs for the proposed redesign of Tukondjeni Market, also known as Stop n Shop, in Okuryangava.The project is expected to benefit approximately 460 local traders by improving the market’s working environment and facilities. The allocated funding is currently directed towards the studies and design stage.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the Maxuilili Fire Station expansion is underway. The City has allocated N$3 million to increase the facility’s capacity and strengthen emergency response coverage in the constituency.Progress has also been reported in the formalisation and electrification of informal settlements.

In Babylon, approximately 273 households in Blocks 3221 and 3217 have concluded lease agreements and obtained lease rights. Electrification work is currently underway in the area.In Okatunda, approximately 260 households with signed lease agreements have already been electrified.

The projects form part of ongoing efforts by the City to improve infrastructure and access to basic services in Tobias Hainyeko.Deputy Mayor Nangula Amutenya also called on residents to help protect municipal infrastructure in their communities.

Amutenya warned that vandalism affecting water points, streetlights and public facilities places additional pressure on limited municipal resources.

She urged residents to act as the “eyes and ears” of their neighbourhoods by helping safeguard infrastructure provided for community use.
