Namibia Strengthens Fuel Quality Controls Through Ministry and NSI Partnership

Namibia Strengthens Fuel Quality Controls Through Ministry and NSI PPartnership. Namibia’s Ministry responsible for energy and the Namibian Standards Institution (NSI) have signed agreements aimed at strengthening petroleum fuel quality assurance, quantity verification and the country’s National Quality Infrastructure.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Service Level Agreement (SLA) establish a framework for cooperation between the Ministry and NSI to support compliance with national requirements and strengthen regulatory capacity in the energy sector.

The agreements also provide for cooperation around the development of critical infrastructure, including a Petrochemical Testing Laboratory and legal metrology verification capabilities.

The partnership forms part of the Ministry’s mandate to promote a safe, sustainable and well-regulated energy sector while supporting economic development and protecting the interests of Namibian consumers.

Executive Director Moses Pakote highlighted the importance of the agreements in strengthening Namibia’s energy sector and consumer protection.

Pakote said the partnership would help lay the foundation for a stronger economy, a safer consumer environment and a more competitive nation.

The NSI also reaffirmed its commitment to the partnership. Its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Eino Mvula, said work to strengthen Namibia’s National Quality Infrastructure is already underway.

According to Mvula, this work includes efforts to provide independent third-party sampling, testing and quantity verification services.

These services are expected to support the Ministry’s monitoring and compliance functions within the petroleum sector.

The agreements establish a formal framework for the two institutions to work together on quality assurance and verification, including petroleum fuel quality and quantity.
