Windhoek Junior Councillors Receive Financial Literacy Training

Windhoek Junior Councillors Receive Financial Literacy TTraining. City of Windhoek Junior Councillors have received practical training on financial literacy and responsible money management as part of the City’s youth development initiatives.

The session was led by former Junior Mayor Charlie Fourie from the African Leadership Institute (ALI), who shared lessons aimed at helping the young leaders develop responsible financial habits.

Welcoming participants, Helena Ndeutapo, Community Development Officer in the City’s Youth Development Division, highlighted the importance of financial literacy in personal development and effective leadership.

During the training, Fourie encouraged the junior councillors to develop healthy financial habits from an early age and avoid falling into cycles of debt. He also emphasised the importance of making deliberate financial decisions and maintaining discipline when managing money.

The session covered financial goal-setting, planning and disciplined decision-making. Fourie encouraged the young leaders to establish clear financial objectives and take intentional steps towards achieving them.

A central message of the training was that limited resources do not necessarily limit the choices and opportunities available to young people. Fourie challenged the junior councillors to consider ways of making their money work for them rather than spending their lives working solely for money.

He highlighted patience, discipline and informed decision-making as important elements in building financial freedom

.The financial literacy session forms part of the City of Windhoek’s ongoing efforts to equip young people with practical life skills. The initiative is intended to support junior councillors as they develop skills that can assist them in making informed decisions.

The training also links financial awareness with youth leadership, providing the junior councillors with lessons they can apply to their personal financial decisions and future leadership roles.

The City said the programme forms part of its commitment to preparing future leaders with practical skills that can help them make informed decisions and contribute positively to their communities.
