Telecom Namibia and CRAN Sign Agreement to Expand Rural Connectivity

Telecom Namibia and CRAN Sign Agreement to Expand Rural Connectivity. Telecom Namibia and the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) formally signed a strategic partnership agreement on 9 April 2026 at the CRAN Head Office, marking the commencement of Phase 2 of the Universal Service Fund (USF) project.

The initiative is a critical step toward bridging the digital divide in Namibia’s underserved rural areas. By leveraging the Universal Service Fund, the project aims to expand telecommunications infrastructure and ensure that communities in remote regions gain access to reliable connectivity.

Officials at the signing ceremony emphasized the importance of the partnership in advancing Namibia’s national development goals. Improved rural connectivity is expected to enhance access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, while also supporting social inclusion and community development.

Phase 2 of the USF project builds on earlier efforts to extend communication services to areas that have historically lacked coverage. The agreement underscores the shared commitment of Telecom Namibia and CRAN to prioritize universal access, ensuring that no community is left behind in the digital era.

The collaboration is also aligned with Namibia’s broader vision of harnessing technology to drive growth and innovation. By expanding the reach of telecommunications services, the project will contribute to building a more connected and resilient society.

The signing of the agreement represents a milestone in Namibia’s journey toward inclusive digital transformation, reaffirming the role of partnerships between regulators and service providers in achieving sustainable progress.
