Outapi Town Council Benchmarks Waste Solutions in Windhoek. In a strategic effort to strengthen its waste management infrastructure, a delegation from the Outapi Town Council, led by Mayor Cllr. Victorina Neingo and Chief Executive Officer Nashilongo Ananias, paid a courtesy visit to the City of Windhoek to study its successful in-house manufacturing of skip containers.

During the engagement, the delegation met with Windhoek Deputy Mayor Cllr. Albertina Amutenya and conveyed its intention to transform Outapi’s environmental challenges into sustainable solutions. The visit focused on gaining first-hand insight into the technical processes, cost structures, and production requirements associated with skip container manufacturing.

Mayor Neingo emphasized that the initiative is part of Outapi’s broader commitment to improving service delivery and addressing pressing environmental concerns. By learning from Windhoek’s experience, the council hopes to enhance its capacity to manage waste more effectively and sustainably.

Deputy Mayor Amutenya underscored the importance of collaboration among local authorities, noting that in today’s interconnected environment, no city, town, or village can operate in isolation. She stressed that the exchange of knowledge and resources is critical in addressing shared challenges and unlocking collective opportunities.

The City of Windhoek and the Outapi Town Council continue to enjoy a longstanding cooperation and friendship agreement, first established in 2002 and renewed in 2022. This partnership has provided a framework for mutual support and knowledge sharing, reinforcing the value of inter-municipal cooperation in Namibia.

The visit highlights the role of municipal leadership in driving innovation and sustainability. By benchmarking Windhoek’s practices, Outapi aims to build a stronger waste management system that aligns with its vision of sustainable urban development and improved public service delivery.
