Telecom Namibia Expands Fibre Rollout Through Partnership with Lightstruck

Telecom Namibia Expands Fibre Rollout Through Partnership with LLightstruck. Telecom Namibia has officially signed a strategic partnership with Lightstruck (Pty) Ltd, marking the company’s second agreement of this nature as it accelerates fibre connectivity and expands Namibia’s digital infrastructure through open-access collaboration models.

Rhe partnership forms part of Telecom Namibia’s 5-Year Integrated Strategic Business Plan, which prioritises sustainable growth, increased market share, and enhanced customer experience through innovation and strategic alliances. Under the agreement, Telecom Namibia will leverage Lightstruck’s fibre network to deliver high-speed internet services to residential and business customers, supporting objectives outlined in the 2025/26 Annual Operating Plan.

Lightstruck, a licensed network facilities provider authorised by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), will be responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and operation of fibre infrastructure. Telecom Namibia will deliver IP-based services via Lightstruck’s open-access network, with services provisioned and managed through Lightstruck’s service portal.

The collaboration also addresses the persistent challenge of copper theft and network vandalism. By accelerating the transition from copper to fibre, Telecom Namibia aims to reduce exposure to theft-prone assets while improving network stability and reliability. Fibre networks offer enhanced performance and resilience, ensuring more consistent service delivery for customers.

Telecom Namibia CEO Dr Stanley Shanapinda described the partnership as a milestone in the company’s fibre expansion journey, emphasising the importance of infrastructure sharing to fast-track deployment and improve efficiency. Lightstruck Director Mr Szacky Nujoma highlighted the value of shared infrastructure in driving competition, efficiency, and improved access to next-generation connectivity.

Lightstruck’s network is already live in Khomasdal, Dorado Park, Rocky Crest, Osona Village, and Rehoboth, creating immediate opportunities for Telecom Namibia customers in these communities to access fibre services. The partnership is expected to significantly strengthen Namibia’s digital transformation, enhancing connectivity for households, businesses, and communities nationwide.
