Minister Theofelus Engages Telecom Namibia and PowerCom on ICT Progress. The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, met with the Boards and executives of Telecom Namibia and PowerCom in Windhoek today to review progress and future plans in the country’s ICT sector.
During the engagement, Telecom Namibia emphasized the urgent need for capital investment to modernize legacy network infrastructure and strengthen service delivery. PowerCom presented its infrastructure expansion strategy, which includes a five‑year rollout of new network towers aimed at improving national connectivity and supporting Namibia’s digital transformation agenda.
The Minister also took time to engage directly with Telecom Namibia employees, providing a platform for staff to raise concerns. Among the issues highlighted was the ongoing theft of copper cables, which employees noted continues to disrupt telecommunications services. They called on Government, through the Ministry of ICT, to explore solutions to curb the problem.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between Government and industry stakeholders in building a stronger, more reliable telecommunications sector. By addressing infrastructure challenges and expanding coverage, both Telecom Namibia and PowerCom aim to ensure that citizens and businesses benefit from improved digital services.
Minister Theofelus reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance connectivity and drive innovation. The discussions form part of ongoing efforts to align Namibia’s ICT sector with broader national development goals, ensuring that technology plays a central role in economic growth and social inclusion.
The engagement concluded with a shared understanding of the need for sustained investment, proactive measures against service disruptions, and coordinated strategies to advance Namibia’s digital future.
