Namibia’s Goju-Kai Karate Team Secures Top-10 Finish at Global Championships in Japan. Namibia’s Goju-Kai Karate team has proudly represented the country on the international stage, finishing in 8th place overall at the eighth International Karatedo Goju-Kai Association (IKGA) Global Championships held in Japan. The team returned home with an impressive medal haul of 10, which included 1 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals.

Led by Shihan Leonard Martin, one of the pioneers of karate in Namibia, the athletes competed against some of the world’s best karatekas in a highly competitive tournament. Their achievement not only highlights individual excellence but also underscores the progress and growth of karate as a sport in Namibia.

Speaking about the team’s performance, Martin emphasised the dedication and discipline shown by the Namibian athletes, who trained tirelessly in preparation for the global stage. He noted that the results demonstrate the country’s ability to compete at the highest level, while also inspiring the next generation of karatekas to pursue the sport with commitment and passion.

The 10 medals won by Team Namibia mark one of the most successful outings for Goju-Kai Namibia in an international competition, further cementing its reputation within the global karate community. Participation in the championships also provided valuable exposure and experience for the athletes, enabling them to measure their skills against world-class competitors.

The achievement reflects years of effort in building a strong foundation for karate in Namibia, with Martin and other senior instructors investing in youth development, discipline, and international competitiveness.

As Goju-Kai Namibia celebrates this milestone, the success is expected to energise the local karate community, attract new talent to the sport, and encourage continued investment in martial arts development in the country.
