Windhoek Engages Katutura East Residents on Municipal Services and SSafety. The City of Windhoek engaged residents of Katutura East during a public meeting on Sunday, with discussions covering municipal services, account payments, electricity safety and support available to elderly residents.

The meeting formed part of the City’s public engagement activities and provided residents with updates on matters affecting the development and future of Windhoek.

Windhoek Councillor Jesaya Iikali told residents that they are partners in the development of the city and have an important role in shaping its future. He also noted that the City is required to conduct public meetings in terms of the Local Authorities Act.

Municipal account payments and debt collection were among the issues discussed. Residents were informed that the contract with Redforce has expired and that the City’s debt collection function has reverted to the municipality.

Residents who have existing debt repayment arrangements with Redforce were advised to honour those agreements. Those seeking reconnection of municipal services were reminded that they must pay 50% of their outstanding debt.

The City also highlighted its self-help payment machines, which allow residents to pay municipal accounts using debit cards without queuing at cash halls.

Residents using the machines must ensure that the telephone number registered on their municipal account is current, as a one-time PIN is sent to that number to authorise payments.

Electricity safety was another focus of the engagement. Residents were cautioned against using unregistered electricians and participating in illegal electricity connections, with the City warning that such practices can put lives and property at risk and affect the safety and reliability of electricity supply.

The meeting also included information concerning elderly residents. The City advised that ambulance services are available free of charge to elderly residents.

Elderly residents were further encouraged to register for the electricity discount applicable to the first 250 units consumed each month.
