Windhoek and Berlin Mark 25 Years of City Partnership with Focus on Culture, Business, and Sustainability

Windhoek and Berlin Mark 25 Years of City Partnership with Focus on Culture, Business, and Sustainability. A high-level delegation from Berlin, Germany is in Windhoek for a four-day working visit, from 14 to 17 July 2025, to celebrate and strengthen a 25-year partnership between the two capital cities. The group is led by Cornelia Seibeld, President of Berlin’s House of Representatives.

The visit marks a quarter-century since the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2000, formalising cooperation across various sectors such as arts, culture, heritage, economic development, and renewable energy. President Seibeld’s visit underscores the continued importance of international city partnerships in promoting sustainable growth and mutual learning.

The delegation’s first day included a tour of several impactful projects supported under this collaboration. These included a stop at Semi Mall, a community development initiative funded through Berlin’s CAPTURE project, and the Bokamoso Entrepreneurial Centre, where local entrepreneurs showcased products ranging from organic oils and handmade soaps to traditional attire and electric bicycles.

The team also visited the City of Windhoek’s Waste Buy-Back Centre, a European Union-supported initiative focused on sustainable waste management. The visit offered the delegation insight into Namibia’s evolving approach to urban sustainability and circular economy practices.

Cultural appreciation was also central to the itinerary, with stops at key landmarks including the Christuskirche, National Museum of Namibia, and Windhoek City Museum, highlighting shared interests in heritage preservation.
