Windhoek Set for City Parade as ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Arrives in Namibia. Windhoek will host a city parade on 14 January to mark the arrival of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Namibia, with residents invited to take part in the celebrations along Independence Avenue.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 12:30 and will move from Old Grill Addicts to the Ausspannplatz Circle, near the I Love Windhoek sign. Organisers have encouraged members of the public to line the route and join the procession as it moves through the city.
The event aims to celebrate the presence of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Namibia and to showcase support for cricket at a national level. Supporters attending the parade have been encouraged to bring flags, vuvuzelas, pom-poms, and other items to create a festive atmosphere during the procession.
Cricket Namibia, together with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Nbc Sport, and other stakeholders, is associated with the event. The parade forms part of activities linked to the hosting of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the country.
The Under-19 Cricket World Cup is one of the major international tournaments in youth cricket, bringing together teams from across the globe. Its presence in Namibia places the country in the international sporting spotlight and provides local supporters with the opportunity to engage with a global cricket event on home soil.
Independence Avenue, one of Windhoek’s main thoroughfares, is expected to serve as the focal point for the celebrations as the parade moves through the city centre. Members of the public are invited to attend and participate by cheering along the route.
The organisers have invited residents, cricket fans, and supporters of sport to be part of the occasion and celebrate world-class cricket in Namibia during the city parade on 14 January.
