Swakop Uranium Signs Project Development Agreement with SSonangol. Swakop Uranium has announced the signing of a Project Development Agreement (PDA) with Sonangol E.P., Angola’s national oil and gas company, marking a significant step in strengthening collaboration within the mining sector.
The agreement was formalised by Mr. Irvinne Simataa, Vice-President of Swakop Uranium, alongside members of Sonangol’s Executive Board. The partnership forms part of Sonangol’s broader strategy to expand its footprint beyond oil and gas, with a particular focus on the exploration and development of critical minerals. These resources are increasingly recognised as essential to supporting the global energy transition and driving Angola’s long-term sustainable economic growth.
Swakop Uranium, operator of the Husab Mine, one of the largest uranium mines in the world, views the agreement as an opportunity to unlock new avenues of cooperation and investment in the critical minerals space. The partnership is expected to foster knowledge exchange, enhance resource development, and create opportunities for citizen-owned businesses while reinforcing regional collaboration in Southern Africa’s mining industry.
The PDA underscores the growing importance of cross-border partnerships in advancing resource development and diversifying economies. By combining Sonangol’s ambition to enter the mining sector with Swakop Uranium’s operational expertise, the agreement sets the stage for projects that could contribute to both countries’ economic transformation agendas.
Swakop Uranium expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that the partnership aligns with its vision of being “more than mining” by contributing to sustainable development and regional growth.
