Namibian Juniors Shine at African Mountain Biking CChampionship. Namibia’s junior cyclists delivered a remarkable performance at the African Mountain Biking Championship short-course races held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, securing top honours and bringing home coveted continental medals.

Leading the charge were siblings Rosemarie Thiel and Marco Thiel, who both claimed gold medals, underscoring Namibia’s growing strength in the sport. Their victories set the tone for an impressive showing by the entire team.

In the junior men’s race, Namibia dominated early, taking the first four positions after two laps. Christiaan van der Westhuizen secured silver, while Sean Lowe clinched bronze. Despite a slip during the race, Mike Baartman fought back to finish in fourth place, completing Namibia’s sweep of the top positions.

The team’s success highlights the determination, skill, and resilience of Namibia’s young athletes, who continue to make their mark on the continental stage. Their achievements reflect the growing depth of talent within Namibian cycling and the effectiveness of development programmes nurturing junior riders.

Looking ahead, the Namibian juniors will aim to build on this momentum in the upcoming cross-country African Championship race on Sunday, where they hope to further establish themselves among the continent’s elite competitors.
