NamPower Strengthens Safety Measures for Rural Zambezi Schools. NamPower has provided critical support to two rural primary schools in the Zambezi region by funding new security fencing valued at over N$ 800 000. The initiative aims to improve safety for learners and teachers at Kakiramupepo Primary School and Mbilajwe Primary School, both located in the Dzoti Conservancy where encounters with wild animals are a frequent concern.
The fencing project was implemented through the NamPower Foundation after the schools highlighted the dangers that learners face when walking to and from classes, as well as the risks present within unfenced school yards. The move is expected to create a more secure learning environment for pupils from pre primary to Grade 7 who rely on these centres for daily education.
At Mbilajwe Primary School, the intervention also responds to ongoing challenges of vandalism and theft of school furniture by community members. The new fence is intended to safeguard educational resources and reduce disruptions caused by security breaches.
Beyond fencing, the NamPower Foundation also provided gardening equipment to support food production activities at the two schools. These resources are meant to assist with school gardening projects that contribute to nutrition support and practical learning for pupils.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, NamPower Foundation Head Otilie Mujoro emphasised the importance of creating safe spaces for education. Mujoro noted that the fences represent more than security infrastructure, describing them as an important investment in learner wellbeing and confidence.
The initiative reinforces NamPower’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities in regions facing environmental and socio economic vulnerabilities. By improving school safety and contributing to food production efforts, the Foundation’s intervention is expected to strengthen daily operations and learning experiences for children in the Dzoti Conservancy.
