SADC Backs Major-General Anne-Marie Nainda for INTERPOL Presidency Ahead of 2025 Assembly. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has formally endorsed Major-General Anne-Marie Nainda as its official candidate for the presidency of INTERPOL, marking a significant move in the region’s push for stronger representation in global policing leadership.
Major-General Nainda, a senior Namibian law enforcement official, has built a respected career spanning decades in policing, security coordination and transnational crime prevention. Her track record, according to SADC, reflects the integrity, expertise and leadership qualities required to guide the world’s largest international policing organisation.
SADC noted that the endorsement underscores the region’s unified commitment to advancing global cooperation in the fight against organised crime. The bloc emphasised the importance of collaborative security efforts as criminal networks continue to operate across borders, affecting safety and stability in multiple regions.
Her candidacy comes at a time when INTERPOL member states are seeking strong, experienced leaders capable of navigating increasingly complex crime trends, including cybercrime, trafficking and cross-border syndicates.
The election for INTERPOL’s presidency is set to take place during the organisation’s 93rd General Assembly, scheduled for 24 to 27 November 2025 in the Kingdom of Morocco. Member countries will vote to elect a president responsible for supporting the Secretary-General, guiding strategic direction and strengthening global policing partnerships.
SADC expressed appreciation to its member states and international partners for their collaboration as the region moves forward with the nomination. The bloc also reiterated its commitment to contributing constructively to global security frameworks.
Major-General Nainda’s endorsement marks a milestone for Namibia and the wider SADC region, positioning southern Africa as a key stakeholder in international law enforcement cooperation.
