Namibia Takes Part in SADC Meeting to Advance Regional Peace and Security Agenda. Namibia is participating in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) 28th Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, with Ambassador Jerobeam Shaanika leading the country’s delegation at the Senior Officials Meeting taking place in Salima, Republic of Malawi.
Ambassador Shaanika, Executive Director of Namibia’s Ministry of International Relations and Trade, is heading the Namibian delegation during the senior officials’ segment, which commenced on 13 July 2026. The gathering is being held ahead of the ministerial meeting scheduled for 16 to 17 July 2026.
The Senior Officials Meeting has brought together government representatives and security officials from across SADC Member States. Participants include officials from ministries responsible for foreign affairs, defence and security, reflecting the regional bloc’s continued focus on addressing shared peace and security priorities.
During the meeting, delegates are reviewing key regional peace and security matters affecting Southern Africa. Discussions are also focused on refining recommendations and identifying strategic priorities that will be presented to ministers for consideration during the upcoming ministerial segment.
The Ministerial Committee of the Organ serves as an important platform for member states to coordinate approaches on issues related to politics, defence and security cooperation. The recommendations developed by senior officials are expected to inform deliberations by ministers later this week.
Namibia’s participation underscores its continued engagement in regional forums that seek to strengthen cooperation among SADC member states on matters affecting stability and security.
The Senior Officials Meeting forms part of the broader programme leading to the Ministerial Committee of the Organ meeting, where ministers responsible for foreign affairs, defence and security are expected to consider the recommendations submitted by senior officials before determining the committee’s strategic priorities.
