Namport Introduces Next-Generation Reach Stackers at Walvis Bay Port. The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) has taken a significant step in modernising operations at the Port of Walvis Bay with the arrival of next-generation reach stackers. The machines were delivered in partnership with Forklift Allied Equipment, a long-standing supplier supporting Namport’s fleet modernisation initiatives.
The newly introduced E-Series telescopic reach stackers are designed to meet contemporary port performance standards, enhancing both operational efficiency and safety. According to Namport, the reach stackers can handle containers weighing up to 45 tonnes in the first row and 32 tonnes in the second row. They are capable of stacking containers up to five units high, providing greater flexibility in container handling and terminal operations.
Namport highlighted that these machines will improve terminal stacking density, allowing the port to manage higher volumes more effectively. The reach stackers’ advanced engineering and design are intended to support smart operational practices while maintaining a focus on safety for staff and equipment.
The Port of Walvis Bay, located in Erongo Region, serves as a critical logistics and trade hub for Namibia and the southern African region. Investments in modern equipment, such as the new reach stackers, reflect Namport’s commitment to maintaining a competitive and efficient port environment.
The authority emphasised that the introduction of these machines is part of a broader strategy to modernise its fleet, streamline operations, and strengthen Namibia’s position as a key maritime gateway. By integrating advanced equipment, Namport aims to enhance container handling capacity, operational speed, and reliability, benefiting both local and international trade partners.
Namport continues to focus on adopting technology and infrastructure improvements that support its strategic goals of efficiency, safety, and sustainable growth within the port sector.
