National Council Launches 7th Induction Program to Equip Members for Legislative Duties. The National Council of Namibia has officially launched its 7th Induction Program in Windhoek, aimed at equipping members with the skills and knowledge required to carry out their responsibilities effectively. The four-day program commenced on Monday and forms a key part of the Council’s efforts to strengthen legislative capacity and governance.
The induction follows the regional council and local authority elections held last year, which saw 30 new members join the National Council alongside 12 returning members. The program is designed to familiarise both new and returning members with parliamentary procedures, legislative processes, and the Council’s operational framework.
According to organisers, the induction will cover a range of topics relevant to legislative duties, including policy analysis, oversight responsibilities, committee functions, and effective engagement with constituents. Participants will also be introduced to administrative and procedural guidelines that govern the work of the National Council.
The initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to ensuring that all members are adequately prepared to perform their roles and contribute meaningfully to national governance. By providing comprehensive training, the program aims to enhance the quality of legislative debate, decision-making, and oversight within the Council.
This year’s induction also emphasises the importance of collaboration between new and returning members, fostering knowledge transfer and continuity in parliamentary work. Participants are expected to complete the program with a strengthened understanding of their duties and the tools necessary to serve their constituencies effectively.
The National Council plans to continue prioritising capacity-building initiatives, recognising that skilled and informed members are essential to maintaining effective governance and promoting transparency and accountability in the legislative process.
