Namport Boosts Walvis Bay Operations with New High Capacity Reach Stackers. The Namibian Ports Authority has added next generation reach stackers to its equipment fleet at the Port of Walvis Bay, marking another step in its port modernisation programme. The move is aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening safety standards and enhancing overall service delivery at the country’s main commercial port.
The newly introduced E Series machines were supplied by Forklift Allied Equipment. According to Namport, the equipment is designed to stack containers up to five levels high, increasing the port’s container handling capacity. The machines are also expected to reduce equipment downtime and lower operational risks, supporting smoother day to day cargo handling activities.
Namport’s Manager for Marketing and Stakeholder Engagement, Cliff Shikuambi, said the addition of the new reach stackers will strengthen the port’s ability to provide reliable and efficient services to its clients. He noted that the upgrade aligns with Namport’s efforts to meet international port standards while responding to growing demand for efficient cargo handling.
The authority indicated that the investment in modern equipment forms part of broader initiatives to improve port performance. By enhancing container handling capabilities, Namport aims to support faster vessel turnaround times, which is a key factor for shipping lines and logistics operators when choosing ports of call.
Walvis Bay serves as a critical gateway for trade not only for Namibia but also for neighbouring countries that rely on the port for imports and exports. Improvements in handling efficiency and safety are therefore expected to have positive implications for regional supply chains.
Namport said the introduction of the E Series reach stackers demonstrates its continued focus on upgrading infrastructure and equipment to ensure that port operations remain competitive, responsive and aligned with evolving industry requirements.
