Namibia and Cuba Explore Film Industry Collaboration During Courtesy Meeting. Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, held a courtesy meeting on Tuesday with the Cuban Ambassador to Namibia, H.E. Sergio Vigoa De La Uz, and the Chairperson of the Namibia Film Commission, Esther Beukes, to discuss potential cooperation within the film sector.
The meeting focused on opportunities for collaboration between the two countries’ film industries. Ambassador De La Uz raised interest in the possibility of a joint film production between Cuba and Namibia. The proposed project would highlight Cassinga, also known as Cuito Cuanavale, which holds historical significance for Namibia.
According to the discussions, the idea of co-production was presented as a platform for shared expertise and cultural exchange. The Minister noted that there is willingness on Namibia’s side to explore collaboration and indicated that such an opportunity could offer value to the local film industry. She emphasized that working alongside Cuban professionals could provide Namibian filmmakers with exposure and practical experience.
The engagement also brought the Namibia Film Commission into the conversation, reflecting the role of national film bodies in facilitating partnerships, industry development, and international cooperation. While no formal agreements were announced, the dialogue highlighted mutual interest in strengthening ties through creative industries.
Film co-productions often allow participating countries to pool technical knowledge, creative talent, and production resources. In this context, the meeting served as an initial platform to explore how such cooperation could take shape between Namibia and Cuba.
