Namibia and India Hold Fifth Foreign Office Consultation in New Delhi

Namibia and India Hold Fifth Foreign Office Consultation in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India hosted the Ministry of International Relations and Trade of the Republic of Namibia on 19 January 2026 for the 5th Foreign Office Consultation (FOC), reaffirming ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

The consultation was co-chaired by Mr. Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary for East and Southern Africa in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, and Ambassador Charles B. Josob, Acting Head of the Bilateral Department in Namibia’s Ministry of International Relations and Trade. The meeting formed part of the structured bilateral dialogue mechanism between Namibia and India.

According to information released following the engagement, the 5th FOC provided a platform for renewed diplomatic consultations across a wide range of areas of mutual interest. Discussions covered political cooperation, trade, education, investment, energy, defence, technology, environment, tourism, culture, and multilateral cooperation. Cultural exchanges and people-to-people relations were also among the topics addressed during the consultations.

The meeting further reviewed outstanding memoranda of understanding that originated from the State Visit of Indian Prime Minister H.E. Shri Narendra Modi to Namibia on 9 July 2025. These agreements were discussed in the context of ongoing bilateral cooperation and implementation processes.

In addition, the consultations took place against the backdrop of preparations for a reciprocal State Visit by H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, to India. While no date has been announced, the review of existing agreements was conducted in anticipation of this envisaged visit.

The Foreign Office Consultation mechanism serves as a formal channel for Namibia and India to assess progress in bilateral relations, exchange views on regional and global developments, and identify areas for continued cooperation. The 5th FOC builds on previous consultations and reflects sustained diplomatic engagement between the two governments.

Both sides acknowledged the importance of regular dialogue in advancing shared priorities and maintaining momentum in bilateral relations through established diplomatic frameworks.
