Meatco Clears Over N$580 Million in Payments to Livestock Producers. The Meat Corporation of Namibia (Meatco) has paid out more than N$580 million to livestock producers who marketed cattle directly to the Corporation between November and December 2025, and January 2026. This milestone reflects Meatco’s efforts to ensure timely and reliable compensation for producers across the country.
Meatco spokesperson Rosa Thobias highlighted that, in addition to direct marketing payments, producers participating through permit days received N$52 million, while Northern Communal Area (NCA) producers were paid N$64 million. These payments mark the clearing of outstanding arrears, demonstrating the Corporation’s commitment to transparency and financial reliability within Namibia’s livestock sector.
Looking ahead, Meatco has planned a total throughput of 63,000 cattle for the 2025/26 financial year starting in February 2026. This includes approximately 13,000 head from the NCA, reflecting the Corporation’s focus on providing inclusive market access for both commercial and communal producers.
Thobias emphasized Meatco’s role as Namibia’s primary stabilizer in the red meat industry. By offering competitive and consistent pricing, the Corporation aims to reduce market volatility and support sustainable incomes, particularly in rural agricultural communities.
For the February to April 2026 period, Meatco is offering the highest producer prices in the market, ranging from N$68 to N$78 per kilogram for AB 1–4 grade cattle. According to Thobias, these prices provide producers with certainty and confidence in their marketing decisions, while reinforcing the Corporation’s commitment to strengthening the livestock value chain.
Meatco’s recent payouts and pricing strategy underline its ongoing efforts to support producers, safeguard livelihoods, and maintain the long-term sustainability of Namibia’s red meat industry.
