MIME and CENORED Sign Agreement to Expand Solar Access

MIME and CENORED Sign Agreement to Expand Solar Access. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy (MIME) has signed a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with CENORED, marking a significant step toward expanding electricity access through the Solar Revolving Fund (SRF). The signing ceremony took place at the Otjozondjupa Regional Council in Otjiwarongo on Monday, 9 March 2026.

The agreement was formalised by Deputy Minister Hon. Gaudentia Kröhne and CENORED CEO Mr. Fessy Mbango, who highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing energy challenges across Namibia’s central-northern regions.

The partnership specifically targets households and small businesses where infrastructure is already in place but connection costs remain a barrier. By leveraging the SRF, MIME and CENORED aim to bridge this gap, ensuring that more communities gain access to reliable and affordable power.

Hon. Kröhne emphasized that the initiative reflects government’s broader commitment to harnessing Namibia’s renewable energy resources and building a sustainable future. She noted that expanding access to solar energy not only improves quality of life but also supports economic activity in underserved areas.

Mr. Mbango added that the agreement strengthens CENORED’s mission to deliver electricity solutions that are both practical and inclusive. He underscored that partnerships of this nature are vital for accelerating progress toward universal energy access.

The Solar Revolving Fund has been a key instrument in Namibia’s renewable energy strategy, providing financing options that make solar installations more accessible to households and businesses. Through this new SLA, MIME and CENORED are reinforcing their shared vision: “Harnessing our Resources, Powering our Future.”

The signing marks another milestone in Namibia’s journey toward energy resilience, with the potential to transform communities by reducing barriers to electricity access and promoting sustainable development.
