Minister Theofelus Highlights ICT Gaps in Kavango West During Stakeholder Engagement

Minister Theofelus Highlights ICT Gaps in Kavango West During Stakeholder Engagement. The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, convened a High-Level Stakeholder Engagement on Monday to address pressing ICT challenges in the region and share updates on ongoing interventions by her ministry.

The gathering brought together key stakeholders to collectively reflect on the state of ICT infrastructure, clarify roles within the sector, and identify practical areas for collaboration and improvement. The initiative underscored the importance of joint efforts in tackling connectivity issues that continue to hinder development in Kavango West.

In her remarks, Minister Theofelus emphasized that Kavango West remains one of the least connected regions in Namibia. She noted that limited network coverage poses significant barriers to progress, affecting critical sectors such as education, emergency services, and overall service delivery. “Connectivity is not just about convenience; it is a fundamental enabler of development. Without it, communities are left behind,” she stated.

The engagement also served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange insights on the challenges faced on the ground and explore solutions that could strengthen ICT access. By fostering dialogue, the ministry aims to ensure that interventions are responsive to local realities and contribute meaningfully to bridging the digital divide.

Minister Theofelus reaffirmed her ministry’s commitment to improving ICT infrastructure and service delivery across Namibia, stressing that collaboration between government, private sector, and community stakeholders is essential. The meeting concluded with a shared understanding that addressing connectivity gaps in Kavango West is critical to unlocking opportunities for growth and ensuring equitable access to digital services nationwide.
