Otjiwarongo Hosts Consultations on Draft Teaching Profession Bill

Otjiwarongo Hosts Consultations on Draft Teaching Profession Bill. The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), in partnership with UNICEF and UNESCO, held a regional consultation session on the Draft Teaching Profession Bill and its accompanying Regulations on 13 October 2025. The engagement forms part of a nationwide consultation process aimed at gathering stakeholder input before finalising the proposed legislation.

The session was officially opened by Mr. Uerivangera Chris Tjivikua, Deputy Director of Education in the Otjozondjupa Region, who welcomed participants and underscored the importance of the event. He emphasized that the discussions were a critical opportunity for educators and stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of the draft framework and its implications for the teaching profession.

Mr. Tjivikua highlighted that participants had the rare chance to interact directly with the consultant and members of the national steering committee, who have been conducting consultations in various regions. “This is our opportunity to understand what the draft regulations contain and to contribute meaningfully to ensure they reflect our collective input,” he said.

Drawing lessons from previous legislative engagements, Mr. Tjivikua urged attendees to engage actively to avoid future misunderstandings. He referenced challenges experienced during the implementation of the Basic Education Act, particularly in areas such as the composition and election of school boards, which were affected by limited participation during consultations.

He concluded by encouraging participants to share their insights with colleagues unable to attend, ensuring that all educators in the region are informed about the proposed reforms.
