City of Windhoek Targets Over 3,400 Households in 2025/26 Electrification Rollout

City of Windhoek Targets Over 3,400 Households in 2025/26 Electrification Rollout. Access to electricity remains a central concern for residents of Windhoek’s informal and underdeveloped settlements. During the recent Pre-Stakeholder Engagement Meeting with Development and Neighbourhood Committees in the Tobias Hainyeko and Moses Garoeb constituencies, electrification was among the most frequently raised priorities by community representatives.

In response, the City of Windhoek has outlined its 2025/26 Electrification Programme, identifying five key areas across the two constituencies for power infrastructure development. The targeted rollout is expected to benefit a total of 3,455 households:

  • One Nation: 850 households
  • Max Mutongolume: 1,210 households
  • Mandume Ndemufayo: 157 households
  • Okahandja C and D: 435 households
  • Onghulumbashe: 803 households

The initiative forms part of the City’s broader commitment to improving access to essential services and accelerating urban transformation in line with its Smart City Windhoek vision. By bringing electricity to underserved areas, the programme aims to address both immediate needs and long-term development goals.

Residents and local leaders have welcomed the project, viewing it as a step toward safer environments, improved educational outcomes, and expanded economic opportunities for households currently without reliable power access.

City officials emphasised the importance of continued dialogue with communities and stakeholders to ensure equitable service delivery and sustainable infrastructure expansion.

While challenges such as funding, urban migration, and informal settlement growth remain, the 2025/26 Electrification Programme represents a concrete move toward inclusive development. The City encourages residents to stay engaged as the rollout progresses.
