O! Yes Final Sports Day Brings Youth and Community Together in Omaruru

O! Yes Final Sports Day Brings Youth and Community Together in Omaruru. The OlympAfrica Centre in Omaruru came alive this weekend as young athletes gathered for the O! Yes Final Sports Day, a culmination of the O! Yes OlympAfrica Youth Empowerment Through Sport Program. Hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), the Namibian National Olympic Committee, and the Municipality of Omaruru, the event marked a significant milestone for community-driven youth development in the region.

More than just a sporting event, the day highlighted the power of sport as a tool for learning, teamwork, and empowerment. The initiative has already reached over 2,500 children across Omaruru and surrounding communities, introducing them to structured sports activities alongside educational and community-building components.

The OlympAfrica Youth Empowerment Through Sport Program is part of a continent-wide effort to create safe spaces where children can grow, build confidence, and develop lifelong skills through athletics. In Namibia, Omaruru has emerged as a leading example of how grassroots sport can foster social cohesion and youth engagement.

Saturday’s event brought together families, educators, and local leaders in a show of support for the young participants. Activities ranged from football and athletics to team-building games, all designed to build both physical ability and character.

The event reaffirmed the commitment of local and national institutions to invest in youth empowerment through sustainable community programs. It also demonstrated how partnerships between government, sport bodies, and local municipalities can produce tangible results.
