Tura Youth League Completes First Season Despite Sponsorship Challenges. The inaugural season of the Tura Youth League has officially come to an end, marking a milestone for grassroots football in Katutura. Founded earlier this year by Royal FC Windhoek coach Alberto Haufiku, the league was created to give young players an opportunity to develop and compete in an organized structure.
Launched on April 4, 2025, after a meeting of local coaches, the league featured multiple age categories—U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19—as well as a women’s team from Royal Angels FC. Participating clubs included Royal FC, Mopane, Inter Maroela, DNC, Fortis, Ongos, Flow Flow, Magic, and Windhoek FA.
Reflecting on the season, Haufiku acknowledged the difficulties of balancing his dual role as chairman of the league and coach of Royal FC. “It wasn’t easy to lead, but with the help of the other coaches, we managed to finish the league in good shape. At times, it felt overwhelming, but I carried the weight from the beginning to the end,” he said.
Despite the challenges, the competition uncovered promising young talent across the age groups. “I saw many talented kids, and they just need opportunities. I also learned a lot from my fellow coaches. I’m one of those people who receives all the criticism and learns from it,” Haufiku added.
The absence of sponsorship was felt most at the season’s conclusion, when it came time to recognize players’ efforts. Limited resources meant that only the top two teams in each age group received awards, while all clubs were given certificates of participation.
Looking ahead, Haufiku believes the league can become a key platform for nurturing Namibia’s future football stars—provided it gains the financial and structural support it needs to grow.
