City of Windhoek and Vivo Energy Namibia Hand Over Sanitation Hub to Mix Settlement

City of Windhoek and Vivo Energy Namibia Hand Over Sanitation Hub to Mix Settlement. The City of Windhoek, in partnership with Vivo Energy Namibia, officially handed over a newly constructed sanitation hub to residents of Mix Settlement on Monday. The development follows the groundbreaking ceremony held earlier this year in February.

Built at a total cost of N$750,000, the facility was funded through contributions from participants in the 2024 Windhoek Vivo Energy Marathon, alongside support from the municipality. The hub features eight toilets, two urinals, and a water point, providing much-needed sanitation services to the growing settlement.

Speaking at the handover, Windhoek Mayor, Cllr. Ndeshihafela Larandja, highlighted the critical role of collaboration in addressing urban challenges. “It is only through partnerships between local authorities, the private sector, and communities that we can address the challenges facing our city. This partnership is a shining example of how working together can yield lasting solutions for our people,” she said.

The Mayor urged residents to take ownership of the new facility, noting that service delivery in areas without sewer connections remains costly.

Vivo Energy Namibia’s Corporate Communications Manager, Lazarus Nafidi, described the hub as a gift from the people of Windhoek to their fellow citizens. “This project was made possible by participants of the 2024 Windhoek Vivo Marathon, whose contributions have now created lasting impact,” he explained.

Nafidi also shared that the 2025 edition of the marathon drew over 5,000 runners and raised more than N$500,000. Proceeds will go towards enhancing city security through solar lighting and surveillance installations. He encouraged residents to support the upcoming 2026 marathon, scheduled for May, as a way of sustaining community-focused development.
