Navachab Gold Mine Hosts UNAM Students for On-Site Industry Exposure. QKR Namibia’s Navachab Gold Mine welcomed a group of 16 third-year mining engineering students from the University of Namibia (UNAM) on Tuesday as part of the mine’s ongoing commitment to supporting practical learning in the sector.
Speaking during a discussion on Eagle FM, Navachab Gold Mine public relations officer Taufi Shafombabi explained that the visit was organised to give students a firsthand understanding of daily operations at an active mining site. She noted that such exposure is essential for students preparing to enter the industry, as it complements classroom theory with real-world experience.
According to Shafombabi, the students were able to interact with employees across different departments, allowing them to ask questions and gain insights into various aspects of mining work. The engagement aimed to help students build a clearer picture of the technical, operational and safety processes involved in gold mining.
She added that the mine’s support for student development goes beyond site visits. Navachab offers internships and graduate programmes, providing opportunities for young professionals to gain structured experience within the organisation. Shafombabi highlighted that the mine regularly receives visits from multiple universities as part of broader efforts to enhance academic learning through practical exposure.
These initiatives form part of Navachab’s ongoing partnership with educational institutions to encourage skills development in Namibia’s mining sector. For the visiting students, the experience served as an important step in bridging the gap between theory and industry practice, offering them a direct look at the environment they may soon be working in.
