Namibia’s Junior Tennis Team Opens Campaign with Strong Wins in Gaborone. Namibia has fielded a team of 12 junior players in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories at the Southern African Junior Championships currently taking place in Gaborone, Botswana.

The tournament brought encouraging results for Namibia on the opening day, with several players recording notable victories across both age groups. The championships bring together junior tennis players from across the Southern African region, competing in boys’ and girls’ divisions.

In the boys’ Under-14 category, Breyton Bezuidenhout registered a straight-sets victory against Madagascar’s Loic Rakotomalala. Bezuidenhout won the match 6-4, 6-2, marking a positive start to his campaign in the competition.

The girls’ Under-16 division also produced strong performances from Namibian players. Natalia Ouses secured a win against Mozambique’s Kayla Muimo in a closely contested match that went to a super tiebreak. Ouses claimed the first set 6-2 before Muimo responded with a 6-4 second set. The match was ultimately decided in the super tiebreak, with Ouses winning 10-4.

Another Namibian victory in the girls’ Under-16 category came from Elrica Nakusera, who faced Jazara Alberto of Mozambique. Nakusera won the match 6-3, 7-6(3), with the second set going to a tiebreak.In the boys’ Under-16 category, Johan Theron also began his tournament on a winning note. Theron defeated Lesotho’s Reabetsoe Rafutho in straight sets, recording a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

The Southern African Junior Championships continue in Gaborone, with Namibian players set to compete in further matches as the tournament progresses. The event provides a regional platform for young tennis players to gain competitive experience against peers from neighboring countries.

Namibia’s participation with 12 players across the Under-14 and Under-16 categories highlights the country’s presence at the regional junior level, with the opening-day results reflecting a strong start to the competition.
