Van Schalkwyk Reaches Maputo Junior Doubles Final After Strong Semi Final Win. Namibia’s rising tennis player Mari van Schalkwyk has secured a place in the doubles final at the ITF U18 Junior Tennis World Tour event in Maputo, Mozambique after a strong run through the J30 Junior Tennis Tournament.Partnering with South Africa’s Courtney Kemp, Van Schalkwyk has won every doubles match played so far in the competition.
Their semi final victory came against Alexie Duclair of Canada and Kaylin Kroon of South Africa, in a closely contested match that ended 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.The win secured their place in the championship match, where they will face Zimbabwe’s Simphiwe Malunguza and Britain’s Charlotte Perks in the final.
The tournament has also featured other players from Namibia. Joanivia Bezuidenhout reached the girls’ doubles semi finals, while Israel Dowie advanced to the boys’ singles semi finals before exiting the event today.
The ITF junior circuit brings together developing players from different countries, providing opportunities to gain international match experience and compete across multiple age group categories.
Reaching the doubles final marks a significant milestone for Van Schalkwyk and Kemp, who have maintained consistent performances throughout the tournament to remain unbeaten as a pairing.
The title match is scheduled for tomorrow, where the finalists will compete for the doubles championship at the Maputo event, concluding their campaign at the international junior competition hosted in Mozambique this week.
Organisers of the tour continue to showcase emerging talent through structured competition, giving young athletes valuable exposure to high level play and cross border sporting exchange.
