Ministry Engages Emerging Miners on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development. The Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy held a consultative engagement with the Emerging Mining Association of Namibia (EMAN) on 7 January 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to promote inclusive stakeholder participation and sustainable development within the mining sector.
The engagement brought together representatives from the Ministry and EMAN to discuss issues affecting emerging and small-scale miners across the country. Key areas of discussion included measures to empower new entrants into the mining industry, strengthen Namibian participation across the mining value chain, and promote value addition within the sector.
Participants also exchanged views on the need to improve support mechanisms for miners operating in different regions. These discussions highlighted challenges faced by emerging miners and explored approaches to enhance access to opportunities within the mining industry.
The Ministry stated that the engagement forms part of its broader commitment to inclusive consultation with industry stakeholders. By engaging directly with EMAN, the Ministry aimed to ensure that the perspectives of emerging and small-scale miners are considered in ongoing policy discussions and sector development initiatives.
Value addition featured prominently during the discussions, with emphasis placed on creating opportunities that enable greater local participation beyond extraction activities. Strengthening regional support structures was also identified as an important aspect of supporting sustainable mining operations.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement and collaboration with industry stakeholders, including EMAN. Officials noted that regular consultations are intended to support a balanced and sustainable mining sector that contributes to economic development while creating opportunities for broader participation.
The meeting underscored the importance of dialogue between government and industry associations in shaping a mining sector that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all participants. Further engagements with stakeholders are expected as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the sector.
The consultative session forms part of the Ministry’s wider approach to fostering collaboration within the industries, mines, and energy portfolios, with a focus on long-term sustainability and inclusive growth.
