Namibia Opens 2025 AFI Global Policy Forum in Swakopmund

Namibia Opens 2025 AFI Global Policy Forum in Swakopmund. The 2025 Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Global Policy Forum officially opened today in Swakopmund, Namibia, marking the first time the country is hosting this prestigious international gathering.

At the Opening Ceremony, Governor Johannes Gawaxab welcomed nearly 800 delegates from across Africa and beyond, describing the moment as historic. “It is with immense pride and deep appreciation that I officially welcome you to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion Global Policy Forum 2025, here in the beautiful coastal city of Swakopmund, Namibia. For us, this is not simply a conference. It is history in the making. For the very first time, our nation has the honour of hosting this prestigious gathering, and we embrace this opportunity with a deep sense of purpose,” he said.

Gawaxab emphasised that financial inclusion is more than a policy goal—it represents equality and opportunity. He highlighted its role in ensuring that both individuals and businesses can access essential financial services, thereby driving sustainable growth and resilience.

The ceremony also featured a keynote address by Namibia’s Minister of Finance, Honourable Ericah Shafudah, who reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing financial inclusion. She noted that ensuring access to financial products and services is central to empowering citizens and supporting the private sector.

The Forum, held under the theme “Empowering Society, Enabling Growth”, will bring together central banks, regulators, development partners, and financial leaders to share insights and shape policies that can expand financial access across developing markets.

For Namibia, hosting the AFI Global Policy Forum provides an opportunity to showcase its progress in financial sector reforms while contributing to global discussions on innovation, digitalisation, and inclusive growth. The event runs from 3–5 September 2025.
