Japan Donates Three Ambulances to Strengthen Namibia’s Emergency Health Services

Japan Donates Three Ambulances to Strengthen Namibia’s Emergency Health Services. The Ministry of Health and Social Services has received a boost to its emergency response capacity following the donation of three fully equipped ambulances from the Government of Japan. The handover ceremony was officiated today by Honourable Minister Dr. Esperance Luvindao.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Theo-Ben Kandetu described the donation as more than diplomatic goodwill. “This generous contribution goes beyond diplomacy. It is a meaningful investment in the health, dignity, and resilience of the Namibian people,” he said.

The Ministry confirmed that the ambulances will be deployed to regions facing the greatest need, ensuring improved access to emergency care in underserved communities. Dr. Luvindao emphasised the vital role of such resources, stating: “An ambulance is more than just a vehicle—it represents hope, urgency, and the ability to save lives when every second matters.”

This donation follows the Ministry’s commissioning of 36 new ambulances earlier this year, part of its broader effort to expand and modernise Namibia’s emergency health services. The additional support from Japan is expected to ease pressure on the system, particularly in remote areas where long distances and difficult terrain often delay access to healthcare.

Health officials highlighted that the ambulances will help reduce waiting times, strengthen emergency preparedness, and ensure that healthcare can reach patients in both urban and rural areas.

In a statement of gratitude, the Ministry extended appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their longstanding partnership. The ambulances will be entrusted to Namibia’s emergency medical teams, whose dedication continues to ensure quality service and care across the country.
