Namibia and Angola Strengthen Ties Through Space Technology Collaboration

Namibia and Angola Strengthen Ties Through Space Technology Collaboration. The governments of Namibia and Angola are exploring new frontiers in space technology cooperation through the ANGOSAT-2 project — a collaborative initiative between the Angolan Space Management Office and Telecom Namibia aimed at expanding digital connectivity across underserved areas.

During an interministerial phone call between the two nations, Namibia’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, highlighted the importance of leveraging satellite communication to bridge connectivity gaps in regions where terrestrial infrastructure remains limited.

Hon. Theofelus noted that Namibia’s partnership with Angola in the ANGOSAT-2 initiative represents a forward-looking step toward enhancing regional communication networks and unlocking new opportunities for innovation. “Strengthening this cooperation will expand Namibia’s communication alternatives and ensure that space technology becomes a key part of our national development agenda,” she said.

The ANGOSAT-2 satellite, launched by Angola to improve digital inclusion, provides internet and voice communication services across Southern Africa. By joining forces, Namibia and Angola aim to use satellite connectivity to enhance access in remote communities, supporting socio-economic development, education, and government service delivery.

The collaboration aligns with Namibia’s broader digital transformation goals, particularly its focus on extending broadband access and ensuring that every citizen benefits from technological advancement. It also underscores a growing trend of African nations investing in homegrown space and satellite solutions to address local challenges.
