Windhoek Strengthens Ties with Bremen Through Courtesy Visit by German Councillor. The City of Windhoek today welcomed Councillor Bettina Hornhues from Bremen, Germany, during a courtesy visit to Her Worship, the Mayor of Windhoek, Ndeshihafela Larandja. Councillor Hornhues was accompanied by her husband, Mr. Martin Hornhues, as the two reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between the two cities.

Windhoek and Bremen share a well-established sister-city partnership that continues to promote mutual cooperation in areas such as urban development, environmental management, education, and youth empowerment. This collaboration has played a key role in facilitating knowledge exchange and capacity-building programs between Namibia and Germany, supporting local governance and sustainable city development.

During the visit, the two city representatives reflected on the progress achieved through years of partnership and expressed interest in exploring future projects that could further strengthen collaboration in critical areas of social and economic growth.

Mr. Hornhues’s involvement in his late father’s foundation — which has supported multiple community development initiatives in Namibia — further highlighted the family’s personal and historic connection with the country. The foundation’s work aligns closely with Windhoek’s goals of promoting inclusive development and improving community well-being.
