Hardap Region Convenes Workshop to Update Multi-Hazard Disaster Plan

Hardap Region Convenes Workshop to Update Multi-Hazard Disaster Plan. The Hardap Regional Council has begun a Regional Disaster Risk Management Workshop in Rehoboth aimed at revising the region’s Multi-Hazard Disaster Risk Management Plan. The workshop runs from 4 to 13 February 2026 and brings together regional leaders, technical personnel, and key stakeholders.

The plan under review sets out strategies for preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery in the face of potential hazards. By updating the document, the Council aims to ensure that systems and procedures remain aligned with current risks and response capacities within the region.

Participants include Hardap Governor Riaan McNab, Regional Councillors, Mayors, disaster risk management officials, and representatives from various stakeholder groups. Their involvement is intended to strengthen coordination and encourage a shared approach to managing disaster risks.

Workshops of this nature typically provide a platform for reviewing existing plans, identifying gaps, and discussing ways to improve communication and operational readiness. In this case, the focus is on strengthening regional resilience and ensuring that communities are better prepared to respond to emergencies.

The gathering also supports efforts to enhance cooperation between different levels of leadership and technical teams responsible for disaster management. By involving multiple stakeholders, the Council is working to ensure that the updated plan reflects a broad range of perspectives and practical considerations.

Disaster risk management plans are designed to guide action before, during, and after hazardous events. Revising such plans is part of an ongoing process to adapt to changing conditions and improve the effectiveness of response measures.

The Hardap Regional Council’s initiative underscores the importance of planning and coordination in efforts to reduce risk and protect lives across the region.
