Ehomba Community Receives Mobile Phones at Network Tower Launch. Residents of Ehomba in the Epupa Constituency of the Kunene Region were handed a digital boost as 100 mobile phones were distributed during the launch of a new network tower in the settlement.
The handover was led by the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus. The devices were provided through the Universal Service Funds as part of efforts linked to expanding access to communication services.
According to information shared at the event, priority for the mobile phones was given to top performing learners from Ehomba Combined School. The distribution was positioned as a way to encourage e-education and improve learners’ ability to access digital platforms that support their studies.
The launch of the network tower marked a key moment for the settlement, bringing improved connectivity infrastructure to the area. With mobile access and network coverage coming together, the initiative is expected to support communication, access to information and digital engagement within the community.
By directing the devices toward learners, the programme highlighted the role of connectivity in education. Access to mobile technology can enable students to use online learning resources, communicate more easily and participate in digital spaces that are increasingly part of modern education systems.
The involvement of the Universal Service Funds reflects ongoing efforts to extend communication services to areas that may previously have had limited access. The combination of infrastructure and device support formed part of the activities surrounding the tower launch.
The event in Ehomba brought together community members, officials and learners, marking both the introduction of improved network coverage and the distribution of tools aimed at supporting education through digital access.
