STEAM Expo Highlights Youth Skills Development for Namibia’s Future Economy

STEAM Expo Highlights Youth Skills Development for Namibia’s Future Economy. Youth development and future-ready skills took centre stage at the Bank of Namibia’s 2026 STEAM Expo, where NTA Chief Executive Officer Erick Fundula Nenghwanya underscored the importance of early exposure to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

Addressing attendees at the expo, Nenghwanya spoke about the role STEAM education plays in preparing young Namibians for a changing economic landscape. He highlighted how early engagement in these fields can help equip learners with practical, adaptable skills that support employability and entrepreneurship.“Namibia’s most valuable resource is not found underground, but in its people, particularly its youth,” he said during his remarks.

The expo served as a platform to connect education, innovation and technical and vocational education and training (TVET). According to Nenghwanya, strengthening these links is key to ensuring that young people are prepared not only for current job markets but also for emerging industries.

He noted that partnerships are central to this effort. Working alongside institutions such as the Bank of Namibia and Mindsinaction, the NTA aims to broaden access to STEAM-related opportunities and ensure that young people from different parts of the country can benefit.

The focus on STEAM aligns with efforts to promote hands-on learning, problem-solving and creativity among learners. By combining technical knowledge with practical application, the approach is intended to help young people become more adaptable in a rapidly evolving world of work.

The 2026 STEAM Expo brought together stakeholders from education, training and innovation spaces, highlighting the shared goal of building skills that can support long-term national development. Through continued collaboration and targeted initiatives, organisers emphasised the importance of making sure that talent is recognised and nurtured, regardless of background or location.
