Edelweiss Launches Zurich-Windhoek Route, Boosting Namibia’s European Connectivity

Edelweiss Launches Zurich-Windhoek Route, Boosting Namibia’s European Connectivity. Namibia is set to strengthen its aviation and tourism sectors with the launch of a new direct air route connecting Windhoek to Zurich. Starting 1 June 2026, Edelweiss Air will operate twice-weekly non-stop flights between Zurich Airport (ZRH) and Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), bringing new momentum to international travel and trade.

The announcement has been welcomed by Air Connect Namibia, which highlighted the potential of the new route to enhance Namibia’s access to European markets and tourist flows. Operated by Switzerland’s leading leisure airline, Edelweiss, the route marks a strategic milestone in Namibia’s efforts to position itself as a key destination in Southern Africa.

The service is expected to offer significant convenience for European travellers while opening new avenues for Namibian businesses to engage with partners, investors, and customers across Europe. Tourism operators and hospitality providers in Namibia also stand to benefit, as the new route could lead to increased visitor arrivals during both peak and off-peak seasons.

With flights scheduled twice a week, the Zurich-Windhoek link will provide consistent, reliable service that supports both leisure and business travel. The development is also seen as a sign of growing confidence in Namibia’s infrastructure, stability, and potential as a global tourism hub.

Air Connect Namibia noted that the partnership with Edelweiss aligns with broader efforts to boost international flight routes and stimulate economic growth through improved global connectivity.
