Berlin Mayor Strengthens Ties with Windhoek During City Police Department Visit. The Windhoek City Police Service Department hosted a courtesy visit from the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Mr. Kai Peter Wegner, and Berlin Chief of Police, Ms. Barbara Slowik Meisel, in a significant exchange aimed at enhancing urban safety and law enforcement cooperation. They were accompanied by Her Worship, Councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja, Mayor of Windhoek.
The visit forms part of ongoing collaboration between the City of Windhoek and the City of Berlin, focusing on knowledge-sharing and strengthening partnerships in governance, public safety, and community policing.
Discussions between the two police departments centered on strategies and best practices for improving crime prevention, emergency response, and public safety management in growing urban areas. The exchange allowed both cities to share experiences in integrating modern technology, community engagement, and data-driven approaches to policing.
Mayor Larandja highlighted the value of such partnerships in enhancing service delivery and improving citizen safety. “Collaborations like this create opportunities for practical learning and institutional growth, ensuring that our police service continues to evolve to meet the demands of a modern city,” she noted.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Windhoek City Police Service’s facilities, including the newly established Command and Dispatch Centre — a key hub for coordinated law enforcement operations and rapid response services.
Mayor Wegner and Chief Meisel commended the City of Windhoek for its investment in modern policing infrastructure and expressed optimism about continued cooperation between the two cities in promoting safer, more resilient urban communities.
