Bank Windhoek Upgrades ATMs to Accept Namibia’s New Banknote Series. Bank Windhoek has become the first bank in Namibia to upgrade its automated teller machines to accept deposits of the newly introduced Namibia Dollar banknotes, marking a notable development in the country’s ongoing currency modernisation process.
The upgrade forms part of broader efforts to align banking infrastructure with the new series of notes issued by the Bank of Namibia in 2025. Bank Windhoek’s ATM network is being enhanced to recognise and securely authenticate the updated banknotes, enabling customers to deposit them through selected cash deposit machines across the country.
Customers are now able to deposit the enhanced N$200, N$100, N$50, N$20 and N$10 banknotes, as well as the commemorative N$30 note, at designated Bank Windhoek ATMs. The rollout is being implemented across the bank’s network to ensure compatibility with the new currency features.
Bank Windhoek Chief Operating Officer Hartwig Rothkegel said the initiative reflects the bank’s continued focus on innovation and customer service. He noted that enabling deposits of the new banknotes supports the central bank’s modernisation programme while also improving the convenience and security of everyday banking for customers.
Rothkegel added that the bank’s teams have worked extensively to prepare internal systems and ATM technology for the transition. He said the institution is pleased to take a leading role in advancing how Namibians interact with their money through updated and secure banking channels.
Further details on which ATM locations are enabled for the new banknote deposits will be shared through the bank’s official communication platforms. The upgrades represent a coordinated step between the banking sector and the central bank to ensure a smooth transition to the modernised currency in circulation.
