Gobabis Workshop Strengthens Performance Management Skills for Ministerial Teams

Gobabis Workshop Strengthens Performance Management Skills for Ministerial Teams. A four day training programme focused on performance management systems has officially opened in Gobabis, bringing together ministerial implementation team members for technical capacity building.

Opening the session, Wilbard Nashandi, Director of Policy Planning and Research, said the participants carry a significant responsibility in coordinating and guiding the implementation of performance management systems within their respective units. He noted that their role includes providing technical support and oversight in cross cutting functional areas that require coordination across different directorates.

The training is being facilitated by representatives from the Office of the Prime Minister. It is aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and tools needed to carry out their mandates more effectively, particularly in relation to planning, development, review and appraisal of annual directorate plans.

According to Nashandi, the programme is designed to strengthen practical skills linked to performance planning, target setting, monitoring and reporting. He said these competencies are essential in ensuring that performance management processes are applied consistently and effectively across institutions.

The workshop also seeks to promote a shared understanding of performance accountability at both directorate and ministerial levels. By improving coordination and clarity around expectations, the initiative is expected to support more structured planning processes and improved tracking of progress against set objectives.

Participants are engaging in sessions that focus on both technical knowledge and practical application, allowing them to better understand how performance management systems function within a broader governance and administrative framework.

The training forms part of ongoing efforts to build institutional capacity and improve the implementation of structured performance processes across government structures. Through this approach, ministerial implementation teams are expected to play a central role in supporting stronger alignment between planning, performance monitoring and reporting requirements within their respective portfolios.
