Bank of Namibia Awards Seven Bursaries for 2026 Academic Year

Bank of Namibia Awards Seven Bursaries for 2026 Academic Year. The Bank of Namibia has awarded bursaries to seven students for the 2026 academic year, following a competitive selection process that attracted close to 400 applicants.

The bursary programme supports studies in fields identified as important to Namibia’s long-term economic and institutional development. The selected recipients will pursue qualifications in Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Finance, Commerce, and Education at local and international institutions.

The 2026 bursary recipients are Christie Hanse, who will study towards a Bachelor of Mathematical Science at the Namibia University of Science and Technology; Lusina Shipopyeni, who will pursue a Bachelor of Education at the University of Namibia; and Benjamin Mabuku, enrolled for a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Finance at the University of Namibia.

Jeremiah Links and Cecilia Ndeuyatale were both awarded bursaries to study towards Bachelor’s degrees in Data Science at the University of Namibia. Prince-Lee Tsowaseb will undertake a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree at the University of Cape Town, while Rodney Hamutenya will pursue a Master of Commerce degree at the same institution.

According to the Bank of Namibia, the bursary programme forms part of its broader efforts to invest in human capital development. The selected fields of study are aligned with areas that support economic resilience, data-driven decision-making, and skills development within the education and financial sectors.

Governor Ebson Uanguta described the bursary initiative as a strategic investment in national capability rather than a philanthropic exercise. He noted that the programme is intended to support the development of skills that are relevant to Namibia’s future economic and institutional needs.

The seven new recipients join 25 existing beneficiaries who are currently supported under the Bank of Namibia’s bursary programme. The bank said it remains committed to nurturing academic excellence and contributing to the development of skilled professionals for the country’s future.
